Supporting caregivers' mental health with a hack pack – Right at Home
Something a little different on the blog today - Sophie shares a case study of recent work with a company called Right at Home. We created a 'Hack Pack' that provides practical, day-to-day tools to help caregivers manage stress and support their own wellbeing during busy periods.
Challenge
Right at Home caregivers face a mix of physical and emotional demands daily, from balancing schedules to providing compassionate care in varied situations. Traditional mental health resources weren’t always meeting their needs, as they require more accessible, straightforward tools that fit into their busy and often unpredictable workdays. The goal was to offer caregivers a resource that would empower them to prioritise their mental health in manageable, meaningful ways.
The resources needed to be easy to access, work well for people with busy schedules, and above all, they needed to be effective. Science-based, well-researched, tried and tested resources that have been proven to have a positive impact on peoples' wellbeing.
Solution
Our Hack Pack was designed to offer Right at Home caregivers a variety of simple but effective wellbeing resources, including:
Quick tips and tricks: everyday advice for managing stress, like simple relaxation techniques and strategies to create moments of calm amidst a hectic schedule.
Easy exercises: short, accessible exercises that caregivers could do on the go or between appointments to release tension and support physical wellbeing.
Nourishing recipes: healthy and comforting recipe ideas that could be prepared quickly, helping caregivers nourish themselves with meals that support physical and mental health.
Holistic resources: curated resources such as short articles, podcast recommendations, and books on resilience and mental health, chosen with caregivers’ needs in mind.
Personal check-in tools: guides for self-reflection and tools to help caregivers assess their mental state and connect with supportive resources if needed.
Implementation
The Hack Pack was distributed digitally to ensure it was easily accessible. Right at Home encouraged caregivers to share their experiences and favourite practices with each other, creating a sense of community and shared support. Each element of the pack was developed to be easy to integrate into daily routines, with something for every type of caregiver, from quick tips to more in-depth resources.
Impact and feedback
Feedback from Right at Home caregivers has been very positive. Many have shared that the Hack Pack provided the right balance of practical advice and comforting resources, making it easier to handle work challenges without being overwhelming or time-consuming. Some noted that the recipes and simple exercises became highlights of their routines, helping them feel more refreshed and focused in their daily / nightly shifts.
Conclusion
The Right at Home Hack Pack is now a valued part of the support they offer to their caregiving team. It demonstrates a proactive, compassionate approach to caregiver mental health, showing Right at Home’s commitment to the wellbeing of those who provide such essential services.
